Wynand Jacobus Van der Walt is a seventh generation South African-born citizen. He obtained his BSc.Agric and MSc.Agric in genetics and plant breeding at the University of Pretoria, South Africa; PhD genetics at the University of Wisconsin, USA; and MBL in business at the University of South Africa. He started his career working in government, joined the Asgrow Seed Company (South Africa) in 1967 as director for research and plant breeding. Van der Walt founded the South African National Seed Organization as non-profit company and Secretariat for the national seed industry in 1989, and as designated authority to manage official seed certification schemes on behalf of government, and served as general manager until 2000. He retired in 2002 to continue his private practice as independent consultant on biotechnology, seed industry and IPR/PVP matters. He was also a co-founding director of AfricaBio biotechnology stakeholders’ organization in 1999. He continues to serve on advisory committees for the South African oilseeds and grain industries, and is member of the Agricultural Writers Association and of the Executive Committee of the SA National Consumer Union. His primary focus is on developments in plant breeding (22 years with Asgrow, now breeding indigenous Clivia flowers as hobby); crop biotechnology communication (12 years of writing a weekly column on biotech for an ag-magazine), and 10 years of comprehensive annual research project on GM maize for the national Maize Trust and national GM crop status for ISAAA; media liaison; interacts with patent lawyers on PVP/PBR/plant patents, biosafety frameworks; seed industry issues (a co-founding director of the African Seed Trade Association in 2000, now honorary life member), wrote article for Prophyta Annual 2015 on African seed law harmonization and rendered services on seed issues for 10 years as resource person to FANRPAN. Van der Walt is also member of some 12 scientific and industry associations and a recipient of seven awards. He has been registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions since 1983.

Hedreyda completed her BS Biology and MS Genetics from the University of the Philippines Los Baños and obtained her PhD in Microbiology from the University of Georgia, Athens GA, USA. Neera Bhalla Sarin has been associated with the School of Life Sciences Jawaharlal Nehru University as a faculty member since 1986. She has four decades of research and three decades of teaching experience in the fields of Plant Developmental Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Tissue culture and Genetic Manipulation of Plants for Stress Alleviation and Value Addition. She has established clonal propagation of many recalcitrant plants on a mass scale. This includes horticultural plants, oil seed crops and legumes. Her work has been published in several peer-reviewed national and international journals. She has successfully completed many national and international projects funded by different funding agencies, like UGC, CSIR, DBT and DST etc. Her recent work focuses on developing drought and salinity tolerant plants. Work in her laboratory is also going on to produce compounds of medicinal value from plants by using innovative approaches.
Neera Bhalla Sarin served as the Dean, School of Life Sciences and is a member of several boards of study and other important Committees. Zurina received her BEng(Hons) in Chemical Engineering from Loughborough University (UK) in 1997, Master (Biotechnology) at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST, UK) and Ph.D. in 2006 from University of Manchester (UK) in Biochemical Engineering. Initially she developed her career as a process engineer in Elektrisola (M) Sdn Bhd in 1998. In 1999, she joined Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as a Tutor and currently a senior lecturer in Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering. She is also an associate researcher for the Biosensor Groups at the Institute of Advance Technology, UPM and currently a member of several international and national professional bodies such as AIChE and Institut of Engineers Malaysia. Her research areas focus on biochemical engineering application on bioseparation using electrokinetics/Microarray Technology, Extraction of bioproducts membrane filtration, Biosensor and also wastewater treatment. She has successfully supervised many postgraduate in similar disciplines and also published many articles in relation to biochemical engineering area.

Prapassorn Bussaman is now a Assiatant Professor at the department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Technology, Mahasarakham University, Mahasarakham, Thailand. The areas of her expertise are Biocontrol science, Mushroom Mite, Industrial Microtechnology, Fermentation Technology, Molecular Genetics, and Tissue Culture. Besides her teaching duty, she is also appointed to be the head of Mahasarakham University biological control research unit which mainly focuses on controlling the agricultural insect pests and mites. Moreover, she greatly served with honour to the community in the position of researcher and the expert in the field of biological product development. Her studies got published internationally and nationally over 35 papers both in conferences and journals.

Yiu Fai Tsang is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Science and Environmental Studies at the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd). Dr. Tsang received his Ph.D. from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He further worked as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Prior to joining HKIEd, he was a Research Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at PolyU. In addition, he is the Programme Leader of Master of Social Sciences in Community Education for Environmental Management, and the organizing committee member of International Conference on Biological-waste as resource, with a Focus on Food Waste, 2014; International Conference on Biodiversity and Conservation of Wetland in South China - From Preservation to Green Development, 2014; and 1st International Conference on Beneficial Uses of Algal Biomass, 2013.

Abu Zahrim Yaser is a senior lecturer at Chemical Engineering Programme, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). He obtained his PhD from Swansea University (UK), MSc from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Malaysia) and BEng from University of Malaya (Malaysia). Dr. Zahrim’s research mainly focuses on the integrated wastewater treatment and composting and has been leading several projects since 2006. To date, Dr. Zahrim has published 3 book chapters, 18 journals and 40++ other publications. His paper entitled “Modelling and optimisation of coagulation of highly concentrated industrial grade leather dye by response surface methodology” was awarded the Chemical Engineering Journal Top Cited Papers for 2011 and 2012 (Elsevier). In addition, his group won Best Poster (2nd Place) for a study entitled “Macromolecular flocculation of lignin particles” at Third International Conference on Recycling and Reuse of Materials (ICRM 2014), India. Besides that, he is actively involved as a reviewer for several journals. The Elsevier (UK) has recognised him as among the Top Reviewers for Desalination Journal (2010) and Outstanding Reviewer for Industrial Crops and Products (2015). Presently, he is the Editor (Chemical and Environmental Engineering) for the International Journal of Advanced Research in Science and Technology. He was the secretary for the 4th International Conference on Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering (ICCBPE 2012) and the Workshop on Progress in Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Technology (PWTRT-2013). Dr. Zahrim is a member of Institutions of Chemical Engineers (United Kingdom), Board of Engineers, Malaysia and Malaysia Water Association.

Teow Chong Teoh is currently a Senior Lecturer at Bioinformatics program, Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, 50603 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in Biochemistry and PhD degree in Computational Chemistry from University of Malaya. He has 10 years of research experience in molecular modelling and simulation for chemical and biological systems. He has published numerous ISI/WOS journals, has presented research papers in conferences and is holding the Chinese and US patents and has reviewed a number of research manuscripts. He has received research Grants from University of Malaya and Malaysian Government for his research projects. He is also the Secretary of Malaysian Society of Marine Sciences

Sarabjeet Singh Ahluwalia is presently working as an Assistant Professor at Department of Biotechnology, at General Shivdev Singh Dewan Gurbachan Singh Khalsa College, Patiala, Punjab (India). He did his M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Punjabi University Patiala, Punjab (India) and Ph.D. from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (presently Known as Thapar University) Patiala, Punjab (India). He has 20 years of research experience including eight years of teaching microbiology, environmental Biotechnology for graduate students. Dr. Ahluwalia has published 21 research papers in peer reviewed international and national journals in addition, he has presented 30 research papers in conferences and symposia along with three patent in his credit. Dr. Ahluwalia has reviewed a number of research papers/manuscripts. Dr. Ahluwalia has received the Grants from UGC, Govt. Of India, New Delhi and CSIR, New Delhi for research projects. Further, he had developed the technology for the removal of Cr (VI) from chrome effluent. Besides that, he is a fellow Member of Research Journal of Chemistry & Environment as well as a life member of Biotechnology Research Society of India, Association of Microbiologist of India, and Punjabi Academy of Sciences.
