Biography
Prakash Babu is Professor and Head, Department of Biotechnology, University of Hyderabad. He completed his Ph.D from University of Hyderabad and joined Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati as Lecturer. Later he returned to University of Hyderabad and was subsequently elevated to higher positions. He worked for 2 years in Japan as Japan Science and Technology Fellow, and at University of London for his post-doctoral research. He established lab and research work in neurodegenerative diseases and is working in this area for the last two decades. His lab research focuses on cerebral malaria and Stroke in animal models to understand the mechanism of cell death. Apart from this he is also working on regeneration using autologous stem cells in stroke models. Further, His lab is also working on glioma in both human and animal models to understand various cell signaling pathways leading to its progression. From his lab 10 Ph.Ds are awarded and 10 more students are currently working. His lab group has published more than 50 publications in peer reviewed international journals and 4 book chapters. He has been awarded Fellow, National Academy of Biological Sciences, Chennai, Fellow, A.P. Akademy of Sciences, BOYSCAST Fellow, DST-DAAD Fellow, STA- Japan Fellow, Fellow, Indian Academy of Neurosciences. He is recipient of B.P. Pande memorial award (ISP), Tulsibai Somani Educational trust award (IAN). He has held various positions like Secretary, SNCI, Secretary, Asian Pacific Society for Neurochemistry (APSN), Vice-President, Indian Academy of Neurosciences, Vice President, Indian Society for Parasitology, Vice-President, Society for Neurochemistry, India. Currently serving as Council member, APSN and Secretary SNCI.
