Thomas McKeon has received his PhD in Biochemistry at UC Berkeley with Postdoctoral Research in Plant Biochemistry at UC Davis. He has over 100 publications, mostly in Plant Lipid Enzymology and Molecular Biology. He is an Editor and author for the book chapter “Industrial Oil Crops”. He is an Editor for Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology (BAB), a Board Member for American Oil Chemists Society (AOCS) Biotechnology Division and International Society for Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology (ISBAB). He has organized conferences for ISBAB and for US-Japan Natural Resources (UJNR) Food and Agriculture Panel.

After receiving her Ph.D. (U Arizona, Tucson, AZ) and completing a 3yr postdoctoral fellowship (Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA), she investigated the role of proteases and inhibitors in health and disease at Rutgers University. She shifted her focus to developing tomorrow’s innovators by engaging students in hands-on projects of their own design that would benefit society. A description of these 400+ projects and their rationale have been made accessible to the public at large through digital media.

Fuad Fares has completed his D.Sc studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, and postdoctoral studiesat the Department of Molecular Biology and Pharmacology, School of Medicine, Washington University, St. Louis Missouri. He is the director of the Department of Molecular Genetics at Carmel Medical Center and associated professor at the Department of Human Biology, University of Haifa. He has published more than 75 papers in reputed journals and serving as a member of the Israel Council for Higher Education. He is the inventor of designing long-acting recombinant proteins and the initiator of PROLOR Biotech company

The research in Choi's Group has mainly focused on the field of bioelectronics. The ultimate goal of Choi's Group is to develop a biochip which can be used as a new generation electronic devices. In order to achieve those things, Choi's Group has studied the fundamental and advanced techniques involved in the development of the bio memory. Choi's Group also has been interested in the fields of biochip, especially for diagnosis and enviromental monitoring. The research projects are the development of the development of protein chip, cell chip, and organ-on-a-chip. Therefore The current research projects are classified as two categories; Biorobot, Human network chip.

Professor Krams holds a Chair in Molecular Bioengineering at Imperial College, London. Prior to joining Imperial College he worked as Associate Professor in the department Bioengineering, Thoraxcentre Rotterdam, the Netherlands and as associate professor/chair in the department of Medical Physics, Free University in Amsterdam. He received his Medical Degree and Ph.D. from the Free University, Amsterdam in 1989.

His research is focussed on the molecular mechanism underlying biomechanical stimuli. To that end he uses a combination of engineering techniques (imaging, systems biology and synthetic biology) and molecular techniques (high throughput, qPCR, life cell imaging) to study the interaction of gene expression and shear stress and wall stress on cells in culture and in whole animals.

Vakhtang Barbakadze has his expertise in isolation and structure elucidation of a new series of plant polyethers, which are endowed with pharmacological properties as anti-cancer agents. Besides, he interested in enantioselective synthesis and biological activities of basic monomeric moiety of these biopolyethers, synthesis of enantiomerically pure epoxides as chiral building blocks for the production of synthetic analogues of natural polyethers. In 1978 and 1999 he has completed his Ph.D and D.Sci. from Institute of Organic Chemistry, Moscow, Russia and Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Tbilisi, Georgia, respectively. 2006 up to date he is the head of laboratory of plant biopolymers at the Tbilisi State Medical University Institute of Pharmacochemistry. 1996 and 2002 he has been a visiting scientist at Utrecht University (faculty of pharmacy), The Netherlands, by University Scholarship and The Netherlands organization for scientific research Scholarship Scientific Program, respectively. He has published more than 81 papers in reputed journals.

Dr. Sugaya accepted a position at the University of Central Florida as a full professor in 2004. He continues to have interests in treating neurodegenerative diseases by stem cell technologies, and his work at UCF has been introduced by Wall Street Journal and other media. He is a Director of the Stem Cell Laboratory and Director of the Neuroscience Consortium for Central Florida. He is also serving as a Council member of the Florida State organization, the Center for Universal Research to Eradicate Disease.

His research focus is to develop stem cell therapies for neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and ALS.

Danny O’Hare graduated in chemistry, Imperial College London 1984. He holds a PhD from Physiological Flow Studies Group (PFSG), Imperial College London on The development of electrochemical sensors for the study of intervertebral disc nutrition awarded in 1991. Dr. O’Hare is a Chartered Chemist and member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Electrochemical Society and British Society for Matrix Biology. After completing post doctoral work in the PFSG on electrokinetic characterization of articular cartilage, he held first the post of Lecturer, then Senior Lecturer in Analytical Chemistry at School of Pharmacy & Biomolecular Sciences, University of Brighton 1992-2001. He is a Member of the Advisory Board for Analytical Abstracts (Royal Society of Chemistry).

Gaston HUI BON HOA has completed his Ph.D. in 1974 from the University of Paris XI and obtained his positions in I.N.S.E.R.M. since 1975. He is an Emeritus Director of Research, since 2000, in the Hospital Kremlin Bicêtre Center, France. His expertise is focus on the studies of cryo- enzymology and enzyme intermediates (1978-1980), cytochrome P450’s structure and function (1981-1992), pressure-induced protein’s stability, compressibility and dynamics as well as osmotic stress study (1992-2015). In 2012, he starts in the study of plant viroid’s structure, conformation and function. He has published more than 90 papers in reputed international journals and has been serving as an editorial board member.

Guo Chen is a professor and PhD supervisor in Huaqiao University in China. He obtained his PhD degree in Biochemical Engineering from Zhejiang University in China. He lead a small group at Huaqiao University to scale up the fabrication, coating and modification of magnetic nanoparticles with different size and explore the interaction between the cell/biomacromolecules (DNA, protein and saccharide) and magnetic nanoparticles. His research programs focuse on automatic extraction of the DNA, protein and other biomolecules based on magnetic nanoparticles from the cell, magnetic solid phase extraction of trace components from the food for analysis and coupling enzyme/DNA on magnetic nanoparticles for catalysis and molecular diagnostics. Chen has published 60+ papers, patents, and conference proceedings and been as a reviewer for 10+ international journal.

He has a strong aptitude and passion in unraveling mystery in chemistry by the application of analytical sciences. He joined R&D centre of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., India (Fortune 'Global 500' listing) in 1977 and worked in various research position from 1977 to 2011, and superannuated in the capacity of General Manager. He has a 40 years experience in different discipline of analytical sciences and effective exposure in the characterization of petroleum and related products, bio-fuels, polymers and catalyst by the applications of sophisticated analytical techniques such as FT NMR, FTIR, Gas & Liquid chromatography (GC, GC-MS, HPLC), X-Ray Techniques (XRD & XRF), Electron spectroscopy (TEM, SEM, ESCA) and metal analyses (ICAP, ICP-MS, AAS). Tugba Ozer is a Research and Teaching Assistant in Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey. She has completed her MSc in Marmara University. She is a PhD student in Yildiz Technical University, Department of Bioengineering in Turkey. She has been a visiting PhD student in Department of Soil and Crop Science, Colorado State University. Her PhD research is focused on developing iron(II) and iron(III) selective sensors and applying them in soil and water samples. Her specialization areas are: electrochemistry, environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, heavy metals, sensors, crop science, biopolymer, bioinformatics and systems biology.
