About City
Alicante is a city and port in Spain on the Costa Blanca, the capital of the province of Alicante and of the comarca of Alacante, in the south of the Valencian Community. It is also a historic Mediterranean port. Alicante is known as a summer destination, with lively beaches and even livelier nights, Alicante will surprise you with its cultural sights, rich history, and beautiful vistas. First time visitors shouldn't miss a visit at the imposing Castle of Santa Bárbara, or at the Palmeral of Elche, one of the largest palm groves in the world.
Of all Spain's mainland provincial capitals, Alicante is the most influenced by tourism, thanks to the nearby airport and resorts. Nevertheless this is a dynamic, attractive Spanish city with a castle, old quarter and long waterfront. The historic quarter, at the foot of this fortress, conceals an interesting religious and civil architectural legacy, including the emblematic Explanada de España (Spain boulevard), a traditional recreational area to the local residents. Alicante is also a land of deeply-rooted traditions, such as the Moors and Christians festivities and the Night of San Juan. When it comes to Alicante's delicious cuisine, rice takes the central stage, cooked in a million different ways.
